An interactive configurator can help a buyer explore materials, colours, options, and price. AI can make the final build feel more understandable by turning those selections into a concise summary.
But the summary should come after the configuration—not become a source of new specifications.
Give the model a structured build sheet
SyntaxLab's configurator demo sends the chosen product, product name, currency, total, optional monthly figure, and selected options to a typed schema. The model receives an instruction to use only those options and never invent features, specifications, or performance claims.
That is the right order of operations:
- The configurator validates product choices.
- Application logic calculates the price.
- The model writes a readable explanation of the exact build.
The language model adds clarity and tone. It does not calculate the price or decide what the product can do.
Schema design is a customer-experience decision
The quality of AI copy depends on the quality of the data provided. Use clear option names, structured groups, exact prices, and explicit treatment for unavailable or incompatible choices. If monthly finance figures require eligibility checks, label them estimates and keep final finance decisions outside the generated summary.
Structured Outputs can help applications receive schema-conforming data from a model, but it does not replace application validation or handling for refusals and incomplete output. OpenAI Structured Outputs
Keep the generated text reversible
The summary should be clearly tied to the saved build. If someone changes the colour, wheel, material, or price, regenerate from the new configuration. Do not let a memorable line of copy become an independent product record that drifts from the underlying options.
Project evidence
This draft draws on syntaxlab-backend/src/configurator.ts, which validates a structured car, sofa, or chair build and instructs the model to describe only supplied choices. The related UI is syntaxlab/src/routes/demos.configurator.tsx. It is a demo/prototype; the repository does not show a live catalogue, payment flow, finance approval, or sales conversion result.
